Gifts for Destination Wedding Guests

April 16, 2018

What is more exciting than deciding to host a fantasy destination wedding!!! If you plan far enough ahead and give your guests lots of notice, they will be just as excited as you are too! In some cases, your wedding is the only vacation your guests may take for that year. So plan well and make it a very memorable time to last a lifetime for all!

You will be amazed when you cost out what your guests are spending to join you, including airfare, accommodations, clothing, meals and entertainment, time taken off work, and your wedding gift. In fact, in 2017, the average wedding guest spent more than $1000 per wedding they attended on those costs. That average goes up with destination weddings.

Put a smile on your guests' faces and a thank you on your lips by welcoming them with a personalized welcome basket or gift bag when they arrive at their accommodations. Your welcome bags and favors are a fabulous way of showing your guests your appreciation for traveling so far and spending the extra cash to share your day!

The best things to give your guests are things they may forget to bring. If your location is a beach destination, a nice cloth welcome bag would be nice because it can double as a 'carrier of things' while on vacation. In selecting things to include: think about water bottles, snacks, sunscreen, aloe vera gel for sunburns, Motrin or ibuprofen, colorful flip flops (a big hit), sunglasses, waterproof key card holders, scented candles, first aid kits, a nice wrap shawl for those chilly nights, or beach towels. The toiletry items should be travel sized, no more than two ounces for the carry-on's return flight home.

For a more personal touch, consider personalized coasters, personalized-packaged cookies from Mrs. Fields, personalized lip balm, or personalized deck of cards--things that are appropriate and useful for your destination location. Have some luggage tags personalized with a funny message from you two that will make them laugh each time they pack their suitcases!

After doing a little research of the area, here are some other items that could be included that would allow them to take a little taste of the local feeling home...such as a detailed custom map of the area, a list of sight-seeing attractions, for a New England wedding give a small bottle of Vermont maple syrup, for a Bermuda wedding present a miniature rum cake, cigars for a Mexican reception, specialized candies in local-identified containers, or a shot glass with your less souvenir for them to purchase!

To put all of these goodies in, have tote bags personalized with your names, wedding date, and 'Thank You' or baskets with your personalized hangtags. It will be a gift that lasts long after the wedding has passed and have them thinking of you and the fun time they had every time they pack that suitcase.
